Book Review: The Ideal Family

If you’re looking for a heart-pumping, page-turner of a thriller, look no further than The Perfect Family by Teresa Driscoll. This novel will keep you guessing until the very end, and leave you questioning everything you thought you knew about the Hartley family.

The story begins on what should be a joyous occasion – the graduation of the Hartley’s daughter, Gemma. But when she is suddenly shot on stage during the ceremony, everything changes. PI Matthew Hill is brought in to investigate, and as he delves deeper into the family’s secrets, he realizes that nothing is as it seems.

What I loved most about this book was the way the suspense built slowly over time. Driscoll expertly weaves together different threads of the story, leaving breadcrumbs for the reader to follow and clues to analyze. By the time the big reveal comes, you’ll feel like you’ve been on a roller coaster ride of twists and turns.

But beyond the mystery aspect of The Perfect Family, there’s also a lot of heart to this story. Driscoll does an excellent job of developing the characters and their relationships with each other. You’ll find yourself invested in their lives and rooting for them to come out of the situation unscathed.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a thriller without some moments of pure terror. Driscoll doesn’t shy away from the darker side of human nature, and there are definitely some intense scenes in this novel. But overall, the tone is one of careful balance between hope and fear.

As a writer, Driscoll has a talent for crafting vivid imagery and sensory details. You’ll be transported to the scenes she describes with ease, feeling like you’re right there alongside the characters. And when the action heats up, you’ll find yourself holding your breath and racing through the pages.

In terms of criticisms, I will say that there are a few moments in the book where the dialogue feels a bit clunky or forced. But for the most part, this isn’t a major issue and doesn’t detract from the overall experience.

Overall, I highly recommend The Perfect Family to anyone looking for a gripping, suspenseful read. Whether you’re a seasoned thriller fan or just dipping your toes into the genre, this is a book that will keep you engaged from start to finish. So settle in, buckle up, and get ready for a wild ride.
